Tips 'n' Tricks for UK Ferry Crossings
|
| |
 |
Special offers & deals change
with the seasons, but most ferry companies offer discounts for
advance bookings. If you can bear the pre-planning, it is a
good idea to sort out your travel arrangements well before you
expect to leave. |
 |
Some ferry companies charge high
cancellation fees, especially if vehicle space has been reserved.
Make sure you read up on the terms & conditions of your
chosen company before you book just in case car troubles ruin
your holiday before you've even left. |
 |
If you book a single bed in a
multiple-berth cabin then the ferry company reserve the right
to allocate the other beds, so if you prefer your privacy then
avoid this option. |
 |
When reserving a placing for your
vehicle you will be expected to provide details of the vehicle
type, length, height & registration number, including any
appendages such as a roof rack or luggage you plan to store
on top of the vehicle. Make sure you have these details to hand
when making your booking. |
 |
Prices often depend on the time
of day at which the sailing takes place. Peak season & weekend
sailings are generally more expensive, as are overnight sailings
long enough to permit a good night's sleep. Likewise, short
daytime sailings are often more dear than short sailings at
night. Decide which is your priority, convenience or cost-efficiency,
& make your decision accordingly. |
 |
It is usually illegal to carry
containers of spare fuel onboard. Some ferry companies, however,
will allow you to carry tanks of propane; find out about this
before you leave.
· Companies will often give you a discount for online
bookings as it reduces administration & overheads, so you're
in the right place! |
 |
If you are not making a straightforward
return journey & want to journey between various countries
before returning home, notify the ferry company & ask about
special tariffs. You could waste an awful lot of money on single
journeys when usually companies will provide special prices
for country-hoppers.
